A child soldier is a child who is forced to work for an army. They can also choose to be in the army. They can be as young as 12 years old. They don't get paid. Young girls cook for the army. It is true that child soldiers kill innocent people; however, they don’t have a choice when it comes to killing people . I believe child soldiers are victims because they are brainwashed to be soldiers, also for food, water, shelter, and family. They also depend on their commander. One of the reasons child soldiers are victims is that they are brainwashed after being given drugs and alcohol. According to “Child Soldiers: Victims or Perpetrators?”, “The drugs and alcohol make the children become more compliant enabling them to commit atrocities which they never would have before.” They are victims because they don’t have a choice to fight. I feel sympathy for them. Another reason child soldiers are victims is that they depend on their commander. According to the article “Child Soldiers: Victims or Perpetrators?”, it states “ However, once they are recruited the children become over reliant on their commanders for shelter, money, water, drugs and alcohol that they find an extreme difficulty to leave. “ I feel sad that they have to risk their own lives for food and water. Children’s frontal lobes are not fully developed. Which means that the kids don’t think right or well. Child Soldiers are victims based on my research. They are brainwashed at a young age and they have to rely on their commander to survive in exchange for fighting. This is unfair to the child soldiers. In conclusion child soldiers are victims. In the last ten years two million child soldiers have died in conflict. If one is interested in helping, you could start a charity and share their stories.

One year ago I broke my pinkie toe. It hurt so much, but it turned out to be an interesting experience.
I was playing video games and my mom called for me. I quickly dropped what I was doing and sprinted upstairs to see what she needed. As I was headed up to my mom, BANG!!! I hit my toe on the post at the bottom of the stairs. It hurt so much that I was silent! It took a second for me to even realize what had happened. I hopped up the stairs and had my mom look at it. She noticed it was already swollen. I got some ice for it to help bring down the swelling. My mom said that if it wasn’t better by tomorrow, she would take me to the hospital. As luck would have it, the next day I went to the E.R. My toe was not looking much better so we decided to have it checked out. At the hospital, the doctors took x-rays and told me it was broken. I instantly thought oh here comes the cast or boot. I was right. I had to wear a big giant boot for my tiny broken toe. I was disappointed in myself because I banged my toe on a piece of wood that I had walked by for four years. My mom and I decided that I should take a day off of school in order to get used to wearing and walking in the boot. Even though I had a boot on, it turned out to be a relaxing day. At first, I had to get used to walking with it on because it was difficult. After some practice, it became easier and I wanted a brain break from the stress. I played video games and watched a whole season of Gotham. That night I realized I had to go back to school the next day and I knew there would be a lot of questions from my friends and teachers about what happened. A month later, my toe was all healed up, and I did not have to wear that dreadful boot anymore. |
